Have you ever heard of networking, relationship building, or perhaps, business outreach?

Individually, those are just a bunch of marketing terms. Put them together, they’re still a bunch of marketing terms.

However:

When you put them into action, you’ll be able to see your business thrive.

That’s super powerful. And do you know why?

Because relationships are what the foundation of our society is built upon.

Relationship building and connections are what make the world tick.

And during 2021, apps like Clubhouse, Instagram, and TikTok are allowing small business owners and entrepreneurs to take their businesses to the masses and build close relationships while having fun at the same time.

I don’t know about you, but marketing my business and having fun at the same time. It seems like something I’d sign up for.

So, that naturally leads to the next question:

How do you implement relationship building into your marketing?

Here are 3 quick, actionable tips you can do right now:

Tip 1: Offer your help

Whether you’re on social media or attending a small business community organization event.

Connect with people quickly by asking them:

“How can I be of service?”

Or

“How can I help you?”

Tell them who you are and what you do (and, if necessary, offer a business card).

Offering your services or value to like-minded people (without a sales pitch) will return in your favor.

Opportunities will naturally arise because when your connections do need your services, you’ll come top of mind.

Tip 2: Listen more than talk

Whether you’re in a networking event or helping customers with your business, listen first.

Make note of the most interesting points (for future reference).

Allow your connections to speak freely, uninterrupted.

People like people who are interested in listening to them!

When it’s your chance to speak, compliment their statements and ask follow-up questions that expand on what they just said.

Tip 3: Celebrate their wins

Building relationships go beyond networking events, you can also take it online, like social media.

First:

Follow your connections on social media, whether it’s Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, etc.

Second:

Pay attention to their posts. Are they:

  • Promoting a launch?
  • Celebrating an award

Take part by:

  • Sharing their wins on your social accounts.
  • Commenting on their posts congratulating them
  • Mentioning their promotions in your feeds

HOT TIP: Social platforms (like Instagram and Facebook) can send you notifications when your connections post on their pages. Be the first person to comment on their posts.

Doing this consistently will get you noticed and show you’re a super fan, and your connections will take notice.
