So, you’re told you need an elevator pitch.

Did you just go 😰…

Don’t panic!

I’ve got you covered in this blog post where I’m going to give you 5 simple steps to create one bomb elevator pitch that represents you and vibes at your frequency.

Why do you need an elevator pitch?

An elevator pitch’s purpose is to share the short-and-sweet version of why your business is so awesome and entices people to learn more about you.

It’s what you’re going to share with everyone, especially when networking at virtual and in-person community events.

Your pitch needs to be memorable and clear. It needs to get people saying “Ooooo! That sounds amazing. Tell me more!”

There are many templates to create an elevator pitch, but I’m going to use a simple template to help you piece it together quickly.

Before you start your elevator pitch…

I want to talk a little about vibrations and frequency.

(Oh, yeah. HipCat is all about the vibes, mannnnnn!)

Everything is made up of energy and vibrations. Every person, place, and thing vibrates at a different frequency.

A high vibrational frequency attracts more “positive” situations while a low vibrational frequency attracts more “negative” situations.

You create your own reality by your vibrations.

If you’re true to your vibration, your energy makes sure your frequency is at its highest point, especially when communicating through words, videos, social media, photos – anything!

That’s why it is so important to be massively YOU.

It’s the best way to vibrate at your highest frequency.

If you know:

  • Who you are
  • Why you’re serving

… it’s going to resonate so HARD – and so BOLDLY – with your tribe. Then, the rest of the formula comes together so easily!

Once you dial in your frequency and vibration, you can work on your elevator pitch.

Feeling the vibes?

Alright! Let’s make an elevator pitch!

Step 1: State the problem in the form of a question

Step 1: State the problem in the form of a question

First, you want to talk about the problem you’re solving.

And you want to state the problem in the form of a question.

Why?

Because, as humans, we’re wired to answer questions. If you start your elevator pitch with a question, then you’re much more likely to pique people’s curiosity and get them thinking.

Here are some question templates you can use to craft the first part of your elevator pitch:

  • Have you ever ____________?
  • Do you notice ____________?
  • You know how ___________?

Here are some examples:

  • Have you ever noticed no one tells you how to do your makeup quickly and simply?
  • Do you notice everyone tells you to be authentic?
  • You know how families have such a hard time finding a reliable babysitter?

Step 2: State what you do and how you solve the problem

Step 2: State what you do and how you solve the problem

Start off your next sentence with:

“Well, what I do is ______.”

Now:

Make sure you’re talking about the emotional and tangible benefits you bring. Don’t focus on the features.

For example – you wouldn’t want to say this:

  • “Well, what I do is take organic materials and craft candles with it.”
  • “Well, what I do is I babysit and tutor kids.”

Instead, you want to phrase it with the benefits you bring:

  • “Well, what I do is help moms relax and take a break from their chaotic day with my organic candles, which make her home smell like nature.”
  • “Well, what I do is give parents peace of mind by giving the All-for-1 babysitting package where I cook, clean, and tutor their kids. “

Step 3: Segue into your "why"

Step 3: Segue into your “why”

Share your story of WHY you started your business.

We’re wired for storytelling and sharing your story makes it so much easier to connect quickly.

Here’s the stat to back that up:

If people love a brand story, they’re 55% more likely to buy from that business in the future, 44% will share the story, and 15% will buy immediately. (*SOURCE … Opens in a new window to Market Smith’s website…)

In short:

Stories sell.

Bring in your story by starting with:

“I do this because __________.”

Here’s an example:

I do this because I couldn’t stand my babysitter as a kid. She would always watch TV or text her boyfriend instead of empowering me to be a better person.”

Step 4: Build trust.

Step 4: Build trust

Now, build trust by sharing a success story to level up your credibility.

Transition into this story by starting off with the sentence:

“In fact, _________”

Here’s an example:

In fact, I just got done with babysitting this adorable boy who was struggling with math. I tutored him and he said he got an A+ on his math test. He was so proud and couldn’t wait for our next lesson.”

Step 5: Put it all together

Step 5: Put it all together

And when you put it all together, you have yourself an elevator pitch.

Here’s an example of an entire elevator pitch put together:

“You know how families have such a hard time finding a reliable babysitter for their kids? Well, what I do is give parents peace of mind with my All-for-1 babysitting package where I cook, clean, and tutor their kids. I do this because my babysitter would always watch TV or text her boyfriend instead of empowering me to be a better person. In fact, I just got done with babysitting this adorable boy who was struggling with math. I tutored him and he said he got an A+ on his math test. He was so proud and couldn’t wait for our next lesson.”

Want another example?

Here’s HipCat Society‘s elevator pitch:

“You know how entrepreneurs find marketing overwhelming and feel completely lost? Well, we make marketing fun by giving them clarity to stand out in the marketplace and the simple steps they need to take fast action, build momentum, and grow their businesses. We do this because we got tired of sleazy marketing tactics and want to build a movement of humans marketing to other humans. It’s what we call Marketing with Love. In fact, we just heard from a client who hated marketing, but we were able to help her gain the momentum to stand out in a competitive market to grow her dad’s business. Now, marketing doesn’t scare her anymore.”

Bonus: Practice your elevator pitch.

Bonus Step: Practice your elevator pitch

Your elevator pitch is your war cry, so:

  • Memorize it
  • Recite it
  • Practice it

Refine and tweak it until you vibe with it

If you do it right, you’ll find a loyal tribe who’ll follow you into battle.

Now:

Don’t worry about it being absolutely perfect. This is only the starting point.

You can always go back and refine your elevator pitch as your business grows.
